Micah Moments

Micah has been astonishing us lately with how quickly he is learning.  People kept saying the second one would learn faster simply because he has the first to watch, and I remember watching Brandon go these fast learning stages and being amazed.  What's been especially fun to watch is Micah's exploding communication skills.  He still says "Ah" lots, and sometimes bits of words will creep in, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know what's going on or how to make himself understood!!  Case in point...

When we went out to Semiahmoo the other day Grandma and Brandon decided to take a walk to the ocean.  Micah of course wanted to go along so I walked at his pace.  We had only taken a couple steps when he bent over.  At first I thought he had decided against going, but that wasn't the case at all.

See his hand?  See the rather LARGE rock he's carrying?  He heard the word "ocean" and connected that to our normal activity of throwing rocks in the ocean.  So he picked up one for himself, carried it all the way across the huge field and threw it in the water!  He dropped it a couple times since it was rather large and awkward for his hand, but he never gave it up.

Yesterday he came up to me, grabbed his pants a couple times and made sure I knew he needed a diaper change by pointing to his room.  Where did that come from?

He's also connecting things pretty quickly.  Yesterday he figured out that the little roller on the computer mouse makes the screen move.  He was having a great time scrolling.

He loves playing trains with Brandon, and up to this point has liked destroying the track Brandon has worked very hard to put together.  (Sometimes, however, it is an accident because he has very little fine motor skills.)  Tonight, while Brandon was helping me dry dishes, he was playing with the trains.  He came around the corner, pointed at the track and said "oh-oh".  I looked at it but couldn't go fix it at that moment.  A couple minutes later I went around the corner and he was trying to fix it himself--getting the male and female ends correct!

He is also building towers and helping to build buildings with duplo already.

It has been so much fun seeing his little mind develop and grow.  Bryan and I were commenting tonight how very different our two boys are and how it's so much fun to watch them learn and grow in their own unique ways!

Blessings on your evening.  Time for some much needed down-time with my hubby.
