The River

Wow!  What busy and oh so much fun "weekend" we had.  It all started on Thursday.

A couple friends came over to play all day Thursday.  They started the day by making a boat out of cardboard boxes.  Then we decided to go see if the ducks were around and feed them, but sadly they weren't so we decided to go to the city park instead for a while.  Since Brandon is always willing to go FAST, much of the "walk" was racing.  We played at the park for a while before it became over-run with middle school age kids and older being too rough and pushy.  Micah had a rather bumpy ride going home with every kid wanting to push him in the stroller in every way imaginable--he's going to be my roller coaster buddy, I think, because he loved every minute of it.

After lunch and a short nap for Micah, since the clouds were breaking and the sun was peeking through, we decided to go see if the river was still around.  The Four-Wheeler (or Fwee-Wheeewer) wouldn't start to begin with so we put boots on and splashed our way out.

The river has sure changed again since I was out there last--maybe Memorial Day weekend?

Charlie got a goooooood work out!

Brandon has always been observant, but his observations are starting to become inquiries as well.
"Mom, why are these stones like this?"

He's so small in such a large open world.

On a log we found a bunch of stone towers, so we decided to build our own and see how tall we could get them.

I loved how flaky and fragile this piece of wood was--rather artsy.

The kids found a log to slither under.  Brandon couldn't quite figure it out and ended up doubled up.  I was laughing so hard I could hardly explain to him what was wrong.

Coming out the other side.

Micah decided to see how many stones he could balance on his leg with his short arm.  Then scoot and see how many he could hold on to.  He got rather frustrated when only one would stay in place while he was trying to move.

Such a contrast--lush green and dying leaves.  Reminded me of fall colors.

Brandon had a great time splashing in all the puddles.  Not sure why I bothered with the boots since they have long cracks on each of them by the arch of his foot so don't really keep much out.
We ended the day by picking raspberries and going for fwee-wheewer rides, after we finally got it started.

I asked our friends on the way home if we had tired them out, but they said no.  I told them they'd better come back then so we could try again--they thought that was a pretty good idea.  We are looking forward to another fun day with them sometime.
